Caspian Red Stag

Jul, 2021

Cervus elaphus maral is a subspecies of the red deer. It is native to an area extending between the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus Mountains. In Iran, the population has been extensively reduced since the Islamic Revolution of 1979 due to poaching. Their habitat is now limited to the Hyrcanian forests bordering the Caspian Sea.
