Syrian Brown Bear

Jan, 2021

Ursus arctos arctos is a subspecies of the Eurasian brown bear. Found in the Middle East, it's referred to as the Syrian brown bear. Ursus arctos syriacus is currently limited to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. It inhabits the forested and mountainous western and northern regions of Iran. However, due to human encroachment on its habitat, the survival of this subspecies is becoming increasingly unlikely.
