Laristan Wild Sheep
Nov, 2020
Ovis gmelini laristanica is found only in a small, remote, and desolate area of Iran, close to the Persian Gulf. It inhabits a low mountainous region that is a continuation of the Zagros Mountains in western Iran. This subspecies is considered the smallest wild sheep in the world and is classified as quite vulnerable. Until late 2017, the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation, together with Iran's Department of Environment, had an extensive conservation program for this subspecies.
